STEMM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine. They are all different subjets that are connected to each other and often word together.
Science
- Learning about how things work in the world (Animals, plants, and how the earth works)
Technology
- Using science to create things that are useful such as computers, phones, and other things
Engineering
- Engineers use math and science to deisign and construt many different things. This can include bridges, cars, buildings, and mmuch more.
Mathematics
- Helps us understand numbers, shapes, and patterns. Math is essential to life and is used in many other STEMM fields such as science, engineering, and medicine.
Medicine
- Medicine is about keeping people healthy and treating/curing illnesses. It involves understanding how the body works and using science to develop new medicine and technology for better treatments.
These subjects are important because they help us understand the world we live in, solve problems, and develop new treatments.
Why is it important for kids?
Preperation for the Future: In todays technology driven world, being familiar with STEMM is essential for many careers. Introducing kids to STEMM at an early age helps them prepare them for future academic and career options.
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills: STEMM education helps kids to think in different perspectives. STEMM education can allow your kid to think more logically and it also allows them to be more creative whether it is while making robots or designing websites. Through hands on activites such as robotics or science experiments, they learn how to efficiently solve problems and will learn essential skills that can not be learnt from textbooks. Being able to critically think and problem solve is a skill set that will be useful regardless if you have a STEMM career or not.
Innovation and Creativity: Many problems that are being experience worldwide such as climate change and healthcare, require solutions from STEMM. STEMM allows curious kids to start experimenting at a young age and will help create the next generation of inventors.
STEMM Programs.
Ultimate Coders
Untimate coders is an after school and summer class that teachers coding. It offers many different camps which also accomadate many age groups. It also offers an after school class which teaches kids many different coding languages such as python, scratch, and many others. They have a great educational approch by teaching kids by their own learning styl
Obotz is a after school program that is highly involved with the STEMM topics. It offers Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It gives kids experiments to do that teaches them many core skills while also teaching them theorectical things.
Zebra coders is an educational program that offers STEMM topics such as engineering and robotics. They offer after school classes and camps. They have a large variety of classes which accomadate different age groups (Grades 1-8+). They also offer week long camps which range from simple coding to advanecd robotics. They also participate in many competitions which have won championships.
Code ninjas offers outcome-based learning in coding for kids through teachers in a good environment. They efficiently teach problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, and other STEMM skills. Outcome-based learning is when you set a goal and do activities to help acheive that goal.
